Perseus holding the head of Medusa, with snakes in the background
Perseus and the Gorgon's head. In Greek mythology, Perseus was a demigod who beheaded the snake-haired Gorgon, Medusa. According to legend, anyone who looked directly at Medusa would be turned to stone. Perseus, however, was able to behead her by using a reflective shield and a pair of wings to fly away.
